What is dehydration and what causes it?Dehydration occurs when the body loses more fluid and essential mineral salts (electrolytes) than it needs to stay healthy. This often happens after:- bouts of vomiting- prolonged fever- sweating from excessive heat or strenuous exercise. Why is Hydralyte effective?Hydralyte is a specially formulated electrolyte solution containing a balance of essential electrolytes and glucose. Hydralyte contains sodium - an electrolyte essential for water retention - and potassium, vital for nerve and muscle function. Hydralyte also contains a limited amount of glucose to assist with the absorption of electrolytes. When to start taking Hydralyte?Hydralyte may be taken on the first signs of fluid loss due to vomiting and diarrhoea. It may also be taken if fluid is lost from heavy sweating caused by fever, excessive heat or strenuous exercise.Signs of dehydration: Marked thirst, dark yellow urine, dry mouth, sunken eyes, loss of elasticity in skin, lethargy.
